Meet The Staff



Ken Long - Senior Pastor

Ken was born in Tulare, California. He attended Warner Pacific College in Portland, Oregon, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion. He then attended Anderson School of Theology in Anderson, Indiana where he earned a Master of Divinity degree. Ken served as Associate Pastor at the Church of God in Muskogee, Oklahoma, before leaving to serve as Senior Pastor at Cornwall Church in Bellingham, Washington from 1985 to 1992. From 1993 to 2003 Ken was the Senior Pastor of First Church of God of Vero Beach, Florida.

Ken has stated that his life’s mission is to “prepare people within his influence for the coming of Christ.” Ken’s personal goal is taken from John 15:8 in that he is committed to glorifying God by bearing much fruit for the Kingdom. Ken is quick to say that it is the life of God in him (not just the work of God through him) that remains the passion of his heart. Ken and his wife, Annette, have four children and three grandchildren. 


Nancy Brewer - Northshore Missions & Outreach Director

Prior to joining Northshore staff in the summer of 2013, Nancy served for over 20 years as a missionary with OMF International in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. Her responsibilities included serving as Director of the OMF Language School, discipling university students while teaching at Hokkaido University, staff member with Japan’s branch of IVCF, church planting, facilitating spiritual care for women missionaries, and office administration. Her field side experiences bring a unique understanding and perspective to Northshore Missions & Outreach as she serves with church members to see the Kingdom of God advance outside the walls of the church. The Great Commission is a call on the life of each follower of Christ.

Nancy delights in seeing people understand and respond to this call. Nancy has a B.A. in administration from the University of Washington, certificate of Biblical studies from Prairie Bible Institute, TESL certificate from Seattle University. Nancy and her husband, Tim, enjoy almost any activity that allows them to be outside in the beautiful Pacific NW. 


Blaine Christenson - Associate Pastor/Northshore Students

In the summer of 1998, Blaine came to Northshore as an intern working with the children’s program. At the completion of his internship, he was asked to join the staff, working in Children's Ministries, where he served for 4 years. In 2002 he became the Junior High Pastor, and is now an Associate Pastor leading the Northshore Student ministries.

Blaine graduated from Puget Sound Christian College in the spring of 2001 with a Bachelor’s degree in Christian Education.  He enjoys playing basketball and softball, music, movies, going to Qwest Field and Safeco Field to see the Seahawks and Mariners play, playing video games, and seeing students’ lives changing for Christ. Blaine and his wife, Jennifer, have two children and live in the Everett area.

Glen Cowan - Executive Team Director

Glen is serving in an interim position as the Executive Team Director overseeing the Executive Team and the daily operations of the church and academy. He also participates in national and international Relational Discipleship trainings. Prior to joining the staff, he served in various ministries at Northshore including fourteen years on the Board of Elders.

He and his wife, Linda, have attended Northshore since 1991. Both have a passion to reach people through teaching and modeling relational discipleship.


Scott Harris - Executive Pastor/Discipleship & Next-Gen

Scott serves as a Executive Pastor, focusing on Discipleship and Young Adult ministries. He grew up in a small town in Eastern Washington, where he met his wife, Sandi, in the 3rd grade.  In 1989, a year after graduating, the High School sweethearts married. They attended Eastern Washington University together.  They have two beautiful daughters, Stephanie, who attends Kings High School and Sydney who is married to David Hance and lives with their son, Brandon Scott Hance, in McMinnville Oregon.  Over 20 years ago, Scott surrendered his heart and life into the trusted hands of Jesus Christ at a Promise Keepers Rally.  A short time later, God called him into full time ministry at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Colville, WA as their Youth Pastor.  Scott added to his ministry preparation by attending Cascade Bible College and Trinity Western Seminary.  The next ministry call was to Orcas Island, WA where he served for 14 ½ as the Pastor of Family Ministries.  Scott enjoys being a disciple of Jesus Christ, making disciples of Christ, spending time with his family and being a fan of the University of Washington Huskies and Seattle Seahawks.


Sandi Harris - Children's Minister

Sandi is our Children's Minister. She married to Scott Harris (Northshore's Community Pastor), her High School sweetheart from their hometown in Eastern Washington, and they attended Eastern Washington University together. Sandi and Scott have been serving in youth and family ministry for the past 20 years in Eastern Washington and on Orcas Island, helping families to disciple children and bring them to a deeper relationship with Christ.  Sandi is mom to two amazing daughters, an awesome son-in-law, and Nana to two magnificent grandchildren!! 


Patrick Hart – Facilities Manager

Patrick has served as Facilities Manager at Northshore since 2008, after previously serving 4 years with the Facilities Team at Overlake Christian Church in Redmond, WA. In 2011 he earned the Certified Church Facility Manager (CCFM) designation from the National Association of Church Facility Managers (NACFM) following completion of an extensive certification program and research project. A graduate of Concordia University in Irvine, CA, Patrick has served as a Director of Christian Education at churches in California, Texas, Kansas, and Washington. He has also worked in management roles with Super Shuttle Seattle, AT&T/Metrocall, and has owned and operated his own business teaching science to pre-school age children.

Patrick brings a passion for stewardship to all areas of Facilities Ministry and has developed partnerships with local vendors and businesses. These relationships have helped Northshore to become a leader in energy saving programs while maintaining a fiscally responsible facilities budget. Patrick and his wife live in the Kirkland area and have four children.


Allen King - Associate Pastor/Church Training & Equipping

Allen was born in Lee country, Virginia. After completing eight years in the United States Air Force. He attended Johnson Bible College and completed his BA degree. He then went on to Emmanuel Christian Seminary where he earned his Master of Divinity and completed his mastersthesis  on Crisis Intervention in Christian Counseling at Princeton University. While attending college he ministered with Cedar Hill Christian Church in Virginia.

He has ministered as Senior Pastor with Central Christian Church, Johnson City, Tennessee and Lincoln Heights Christian Church, Phoenix, Arizona. In his retirement years, he now serves as Assoc. Pastor at Northshore, supporting church training and equipping efforts. Allen and his wife Mona and daughter, Taylor, reside in the Mill Creek area.


Holly Leach - Academy Superintendent

Holly received a BS degree from  Oregon State University and her Masters in Education from Western Washington University. Married for over 30 years to her wonderful husband, Tom, they worked together as missionaries, running an orphanage before they had children. Being parents to 45 children didn’t stop them from having three children of their own!  Driven by the desire to minister to children, Holly at one time directed the only residential training facility for multi-handicapped children in Oregon. Her experience as a Principal was gained from leading three different schools over a period of 11 years. She joined the staff of  Northshore Christian Academy in the summer of 2000. Holly’s hobbies include hiking, camping, backpacking, and rollerblading.


Paul Lowell - Associate Pastor/Prayer & Baptism

Paul is our Prayer & Baptism Pastor and has served as First Impressions Coordinator since November 1998. He is a graduate of the University of Washington with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and has a Master's Degree in Spiritual Nurture from Mar's Hill Graduate School. 

Paul and his wife, Kathy, have been at Northshore since 1994. They have four grown sons and have lived in Everett for almost 30 years. Paul has been self-employed in art glass since 1974 and his interests include family and friends, art, antique automobiles, sports and Bible study. He enjoys people and their stories; leading a life fellowship group, exercising hospitality and attending car shows in his classic Mustang.


Heidi Marsh - Women's Discipleship Director

Heidi joined Northshore’s staff in 2016 teaming with Sam Mielbrecht to lead our Women’s ministry. She lives in Mukilteo with her husband John, their son and Boomer the dog. Prior to calling this area home, Heidi has lived in Southern California, Massachusetts and Connecticut. She graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Business/minor in biology, and spent the first 18 years of her career in the philanthropic sector, raising money for organizations like World Vision, Boys & Girls Clubs, and Swedish Medical Center. She served on staff at Lifepoint Church in Renton as the children’s ministry director, and now as Northshore’s Co-director of Women’s Discipleship, she enjoys sharing her passion to help others grow in their faith through mentor-based relationships and quiet reflection. Personally, Heidi owns and operates an interior styling and furniture revival business, and enjoys landscape photography, hiking, blogging and crafting.


Samantha Mielbrecht - Women's Discipleship Director

Samantha 'Sam' Mielbrecht joined NCC in 2015 as our Women's Discipleship Director.

For the past 20 years, Sam and her husband Mark have been involved in full-time ministry first with Campus Crusade for Christ resourcing and developing student leaders around the Northwest. More recently, their focus has been about seeing God’s Kingdom advance while working with struggling indigenous Africa communities.  Sam and Mark reside on a small family farm in the Everett area with their 3 kids, 2 dogs, 2 rabbits, 1 cat, 14 chickens, and 11 goats.


Rick Moreno - Community Pastor/Community Life Groups

Rick is from Southern California where he excelled in sports (basketball, volleyball and surfing). Rick enjoyed a 25 year career as a Union Ironworker where he was able to share his love for the Lord with anyone who would listen. In 1999, Rick met his wife Twila in Huntington Beach, California where they served the body of Christ for 11 years prior to coming to Washington in 2012. Together they have 4 beautiful children.

Rick & Twila have been involved in ministry at NCC since they began attending, and Rick joined the discipleship team as a community pastor at Northshore Christian in early 2016 and is dedicated to serving the church community.


Dan Richards - Director of Finance

Dan was born and raised in Michigan (a tried and true fan of the Maize and Blue!) and moved to Everett in 1985 after completing his Navy enlistment. Dan and his wife, Becky, have called Northshore their church home since 1999, and in March of 2003 Dan joined the staff and serves as the Director of Finance for the ministries of Northshore. Including his time with Northshore, Dan has spent three decades working with non-profits, social welfare and government organizations. Dan and Becky are blessed with a family which includes their daughter, Jessica, and granddaughter, Jaylei (NCA student).


Greg Schafnitz - Community Pastor/Community Life Groups

Greg was born and raised in Montana. He spent 23 years in the Navy serving on 4 Aircraft Carriers and 9 deployments, which amounted to 15 years at sea.  During this time he met his beautiful wife, Lani, and has since raised a family of 3 children and 12 grandchildren. After retiring from the Navy he went to work at the Post Office for 9 years before God called him into ministry at Northshore as a Community Pastor, overseeing and growing life groups.


Damian Thompson - Associate Pastor/Worship

Although born and raised in Oakland, California, Damian moved to the Northwest in 1982 and considers it to be his “home”. He has been involved in leading God’s people in worship for over 20 years.

Having completed his undergraduate degree in 1987 at Columbia  Christian College, Cascade College in Portland, Oregon, he moved to the Everett area in 1996 where he met and married the woman of his dreams, Ali-Ca. They have been blessed with three amazing sons who are passionate worship leaders in-training. Damian is also extended an extra measure of grace for being a Raiders and A’s fan!
