Fall Ministry Project~2011
Family Community Service Project:

In response to our virtue study for November & December, “Gratitude” & “Generosity”, our elementary students have worked together to consider the needs of the homeless in our community.
The vision for this project came from one of our own recent graduates, Michael Ramsey, who currently serves as a Small Group Leader in 2nd & 3rd grade. Michael began the “Zero Apathy” ministry to create opportunities for students to recognize & assist the homeless in Snohomish County. Through his leadership & inspiration, our KidsQuest small groups have come together to assemble over 200 “easy to hand out” ziplock bags containing items that might bless those living on the streets during these cold winter months. Each bag has been prayed over and accompanied by a card from the children.
Although we are excited to see our kids have a “hands on” opportunity to help others in collecting & preparing supplies, the truly exciting part of the project is to see how God might engage Northshore families in His good work as we distribute these packages!
During the 2nd and 3rd weekends of December, these bags will be available to families who desire to be part of this service project. Each student has been encouraged to talk with their parents about checking out a bag which they will keep in their car during the coming winter months. It is our hope that this bag may give your family an opportunity to have meaningful conversation & prayer as we ask God to give us eyes to see that special someone we will have the opportunity to bless. (Please note that no child will be given a bag without the involvement of a parent or guardian.)
Each bag will come with a family discussion prompter designed to give parents and their kids a place to begin talking about the issue of homelessness & poverty. There is so much insight to be gained as families explore how Jesus approached the needs of the sick, the poor, and even those who some would argue “didn’t deserve His compassion”. Although the contents of these bags are not extravagant, we pray this act of generosity & kindness will not only communicate Christ’s love to someone in need, but might provide parents a practical application that allows us to live out our lives as Christ followers in front of our children.
Praying that this opportunity might bless your family this season!
